Pout it, like a Belgian
Facial expressions are like a universal language of emotion. People from all over the world express emotions by using facial expressions and gestures in their own unique ways.
Destiny brought me to Belgium a few years ago and understanding locals was my next step. First few months, I was trying to understand this country and its people, by learning about their culture, language, their social etiquette and many other necessary things.
One day I ended up noticing their one of the unique facial expressions, that they made involving their lips. I noticed that all Belgians use their lips as if they are pouting. They did it regularly to express something. I had no idea what did it mean to them?
For a long time, I kept quiet but at some point, I could not hold my curiosity anymore and after researching about it finally, I find out that It is a Belgian’s way of expressing their agreement or disagreement with you. or saying Yes or No’s. They put their lips forward in an exaggerated kissy-face, usually adding a nod to complete the effect.
Most Belgians are not even aware that their this expression is famous among non-Belgians . For them It is a just a facial expression they are doing since always which is very normal behavior as each country has its own unique behavior patterns and facial expressions.
